ADDITIONAL INFO

From Luxor, many tours include a cruise down the Nile to EsnaEdfuKom Ombo, and end in Aswan. Some tours fly directly to Aswan and then work their way north down the Nile to the same sights.

Either way, you'll want to spend at least 3 to 4 nights on a cruise. The best time to go on a Nile cruise is between October and April. If you only have a week in Egypt, some tours do offer a short one day cruise from Luxor to Qena where en route you visit the Temple of Dendera.
A Nile cruise used to be the only way tourists could see some of Egypt's finest antiquities, and it's still a great way to see them. There are many boats to choose from and your budget will determine how luxurious your trip can be. The more luxurious cabins will be large, have AC, a private bathroom and a TV which can cost up to $300 a night. Most cruise ships will have nightly entertainment on board -- this may include shows with belly dancers, Whirling Dervishes, and Nubian dancers. A "Disco Party" is also a popular item.
If a floating hotel doesn't appeal to you, try the traditional Felucca instead. There are tours that include a cruise down the Nile in one these ancient sailing vessels. It won't be quite as comfortable as a large cruise ship, but it will certainly provide more adventure.
If you have longer than 7 days, you should see Abu Simbel. Abu Simbel is truly one of Egypt's best attractions, the temples are simply stunning. To get to Abu Simbel you need to take a bus plane or taxi from Aswan. By road, it takes about 3 hours to get to Abu Simbel from Aswan, and the buses drive in convoy for security.
